Fix: Cannot Install Script In Web Root Directory Using Fantastico

This is just a small note for those who have the same problem as I have had so that I won’t have to explain what Fantastico is.

At the very start, I installed Wordpress in the web root directory of my web space using Fantastico but then I decided to move my Wordpress to a sub directory, /blog, but I did it manually. Recently, I thought well adding /blog to my URL might be a little too long and inconvenient. Therefore, I decided to move it back to the web root directory. This time I wanted to reinstall Wordpress with Fantastico because it comes with a new version. During the process of Wordpress installation, I got this message “You cannot install more than one script in the root directory of a domain.

If you’ve come across this problem, here’s the solution. Browse to the root directory of your account. Just to clarify, account root directory is not a web root directory in this case. The directory structure of a web root directory is / and the structure of a root directory of your account is /public_html. Ok, it should be clear by now. From the account root directory go to .fantasticodata directory. In that, you’ll find a file named “installed_in_root.php”. The content of file should be $installed_in_root[”phalkunz.com”] = 1;. So, what you have to do is change from 1 to 0.

It is very very important that, before you use that solution make sure that you don’t have a web application in web root directory that you want to keep, otherwise it will be overwritten.
